SANYO Energy’s new corporate social responsibility campaign, ‘Think GAIA!’ targets Singapore schools to go green

Singapore, 4 December 2007 – With companies around the world becoming more environmentally friendly, SANYO Energy has taken it a step further. SANYO has appointed BANG PR to manage their corporate social responsibility campaign, Think Gaia-Energy Evolution Pilot Project (EEPP), which educates young Singaporeans in schools to be more environmentally conscious.

SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO) is a multi-billion-dollar global leader in providing solutions for the environment, energy and for lifestyle applications based on its Brand Vision ‘Think GAIA’. SANYO Energy (S) Corporation is a division of SANYO’s component group. SANYO Energy (S) Corp. is based in Singapore and markets high quality battery products in the regions of Asean, Oceania, Indian Subcontinent, Middle East and Africa.

The EEPP campaign, which will run from November 2007 to October 2008 in local schools will teach Singaporean children the importance of environment protection with a strong emphasis on global environmental and energy issues.

Since the introduction of SANYO’s eneloop rechargeable battery in 2005, the first product which reflected SANYO’s new vision of caring for the environment, the Japanese firm, well known for its household appliances, has been actively holding classes on the environmental issues in Japan and Japanese schools located in Beijing and Tianjin, China.

The educational materials for the Singapore students will be adapted from those produced in Japan to include local relevance and nuances to suit Singaporean students.

Mr Tom Matsui, Manager of SANYO Energy (S) Corp. said, “This is an important project for us. It is the first time we are launching the programme for non-Japanese students. It is essential to encourage our young Singaporeans to care for our environment and make a conscious effort to reduce waste and recycle energy. We believe BANG’s experiences in many public campaigns will come in handy to ensure the success of EEPP”.
